Pereira de Melo is the name of a family but it is also the name of a project that has in its genesis a philosophy of creating wines with great character, elegance and longevity, in very limited editions. We are committed to our origin, our traditions and the extraordinary terroir of our place.
Manuel Pereira de Melo began the project in 1990 under the technical orientation of Anselmo Mendes, one of the most prestigious Portuguese oenologist who meanwhile extended the technical team to his special collaborator, the oenologist Patrícia Santos.
Located in Santa Comba Dão, in the Dão region and surrounded by the mountains of Estrela, Caramulo and Lousã, Quinta do Coladinho is a place that reveals a unique sense and characteristics that combine in a rare balance. This is an area with the capacity of producing wines with great longevity, some with the ability to reach 100 years and more.
Working with nature and its unpredictability, in just two hectares of vineyards, we create harvests with the least human intervention possible. Our concern with the preservation of the environment made us opt for rigorous and demanding processes that limit the type of products for the vine treatments.
The knowledge of a highly qualified team allows us to develop a thorough vine work in total respect for biodiversity, a careful selection of grapes and a serious and skilful vinification process, always driven by our commitment to excellence.
The winery is properly equipped for the preparation of premium wines. We associate the traditional methods with modern technologies. Being equipped with stainless steel vats we still use the granite mill for fermentation with “pisa”.
The vinification is carefully controlled at low temperatures. Along this process we extract the full potential of structure, color and aromas through delicate macerations.
By producing Primado Red, a blend of the most notable grapes of Dão, Touriga-Nacional, Tinta-Roriz, Alfrocheiro and Jaen, we aim to present a wine of great complexity and elegance with a long aging capacity. Thus, Primado Red remains aging to its ideal consumption point, a few years after its harvest.
With a very limited production Primado red is a rare wine. Complex and intense, with firm but delicate tannins and a surprising freshness, Primado has an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity that gives it a remarkable structure of great elegance.
The Primado White is produced from Encruzado grape, typical of the Dão and considered one of the rare white grape varieties of quality beyond reproach. It is a structured, engaging and creamy wine and although it can be drunk young it is a wine with great longevity and potential for good aging.
